For some reason while I was finishing the second pair I thought back to one of my art teachers. I think it was in high school I was taught to try and not outline. I’ve always had that in the back of my mind. Not outline. I wonder why? My thoughts are that if you are drawing realistically, none of us are walking around with an outline around us. So, in that sense, it makes sense. This particular drawing has a strong outlined feel to it. I think that must have come from the statue itself which was extremely crisp. I purposely outlined the painting with a yellow line. It’s the color I I began with and the color I wanted to end with. Pair number two in the books!
Head of Sasanian King
ca. A.D. 350

As soon as I thought of this project I was so excited to get the ball rolling. Funny enough what is going to take the most time is preparing all the pieces of paper. For the paintings I need to prime each piece with gesso. So, it’s a little tedious, but I know the end result will be worth it.
I’ve gotten a few drawings done and I have begun painting this afternoon with the completion of the first pair. The “Nude Woman” (Venus of Willendorf) ca. 28,000-25,000 B.C.
Stay tuned because not only have the pairs begun, but I’m also going figure out how to make a video!
